Busy weekend ahead for Rovers teams

For the first time this season, Tuffley Rovers will have all four Saturday teams in competitive action, as the 3rds and 4ths start their seasons on 5 September.

The big game of the day will see Neil Mustoe’s Rovers host Bristol side Hallen in an Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division fixture, with the hosts looking to extend a positive run of form, which included a 2-0 win over Longlevens on Bank Holiday Monday. Hallen currently sit bottom of the league but have a promising young squad who will test Mustoe’s squad. Kick-off at the R B Walters Estate Agents Stadium will be at 3pm. There is another big game for the Reserves, who will be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of a midweek defeat on penalties in the Reg Davis Memorial Cup when they visit Old Richians at Sandyleaze. Richians pipped the Reserves to the Stroud League title last season and currently sit top of the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division Two table, so this will be a much tougher challenge than the one faced by Antoine Thompson and Spike Devlin’s team last week, when they romped to an 18-0 win over struggling Fintan. That game will kick-off at 3pm.

New managers will lead the 3rds and 4ths today, as Steve Collins takes his 3rds to Tetbury Town Reserves in Division 3(S), whilst Dave Griffiths begins his stint as 4ths manager hosting Brockworth Albion 3rds at Kingsway. Both those games kick-off at 2:30pm.

If a busy Saturday wasn’t enough, the Veterans, who are led by Warren Mann, will play Bishops Cleeve Veterans on Sunday, as they too start their competitive season at Oxstalls Sports Centre. That game will kick-off at 2pm.

This all comes off the back of a busy week, which included a terrific 4-3 win for the Under 18s in the FA Youth Cup. They have now been drawn away to Slimbridge in the next round, with the tie due to take place in week commencing 14 September 2026.
