Rovers ready for FA Vase & opportunity to make history

Buildbase FA Vase

Tuffley Rovers will be looking to recover their best form this weekend as they look to take one step closer to history.

After disappointing defeats against Kingswood last Saturday, then Brimscombe & Thrupp on Tuesday, the Glevum Park outfit face Western League, Premier Division side Sherborne Town in the Buildbase FA Vase First Round Proper on Saturday, knowing a win will equal their best ever run in the competition.

Whilst a win guarantees very welcome prize money, the chance of a decent run in a cup competition once won by Gloucestershire side Forest Green Rovers is something that their manager, Mark Pritchett, is eagerly looking forward to.

“At the start of the season we were in at least five cup competitions but we were really looking at the Vase as the one where we wanted to progress as far as possible. It’s a great competition for clubs at our level”, Pritchett said.

Saturday’s visitors, Sherborne Town, have been on a wretched run of form since the start of the season but secured their first league win the last time out and Pritchett isn’t underestimating the challenge.

“We haven’t been in our best form over the last week or two and Sherborne won their last game, so we can’t assume that a side who’ve suffered some heavy defeats this season are going to be a push over. We have to play to our best and I’m looking for a big response to a couple of poor displays recently”, the Rovers manager confirmed.

Pritchett will return to the playing squad after missing the midweek defeat and Shayne Bradley is likely to be back too. Jack Overthrow and Marcus Foxwell have returned to action in the last seven days, following injuries, meaning that Rovers have something nearing a fully fit squad to work with for the first time in the last few weeks.

The Buildbase FA Vase game will kick-off at 3pm on Saturday at Glevum Park. Admission is £5 for adults and £3 concessions.
