Rovers face tough Thatcham Town test

After a series of fixtures against the Uhlsport Hellenic League’s form sides, Mark Pritchett’s Tuffley Rovers squad will face Thatcham Town on Saturday, knowing that they will need a return to their best form, not only to return to winning ways, but also to take points against a side whom they have a miserable record against.

Since their return to the Premier Division at the start of the 2015/16 season, Rovers have lost to Thatcham Town in all four meetings between the clubs – three in the league and one cup tie – including two defeats this season.

The first of those two meetings was a close fought league fixture, at Glevum Park in mid-August, when a late goal saw Thatcham take the points, but Rovers were comprehensively beaten 3-0 when Saturday’s hosts made a return visit to Rovers’ home on 11 October.

Rovers manager is expecting another tough game when his side travel to Berkshire at the weekend, to face a team who are amongst the sides competing for a place at the top of the league table.

Based upon our games against them, Thatcham Town are the best side we’ve played, in my opinion, so we will have to show improved form and make sure we’re at the races on Saturday”, said Pritchett.

Rovers form has taken something of a tumble in recent weeks and they struggled to score, with 7 goalless games in their last ten outings. Pritchett is hopeful that the tide will soon turn, as he sees more and more of his squad return to fitness or conclude suspensions.

“Despite our defeat (against Ardley United) last Saturday, I saw plenty of positives in our performance, but we’re just struggling to find the back of the net. That will change and it could be the catalyst for some better results”, Pritchett concluded.

After their visit to Thatcham Town this weekend, Rovers will have a home Boxing Day game against Longlevens (12 noon kick-off), before ending 2016 with a New Years’ Eve visit to Highworth Town.
