Busy weekend and a chance for Rovers’ teams to return to form

Six games will take place this weekend, as Rovers’ senior sides look to recover from last weekend, when all suffered a defeat, scoring only two goals between them.

The First XI will travel to the Gerrard Buxton Sports Ground, to play Royal Wotton Bassett Town, looking to continue a long running unbeaten run against their hosts on Saturday. When the sides met at Glevum Park earlier this season, a Marcus Foxwell wonder-goal helped Mark Pritchett’s side to a 3-1 win and his squad will be looking to secure another three points tomorrow, as they return to Uhlsport Hellenic League, Premier Division action.

Our Reserves were beaten 3-0 last week but remain sixth in the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League, Division One table and will host Brockworth Albion in a 2pm kick-off at Glevum Park tomorrow. The two sides haven’t met in the league this season, but did play out a 4-4 draw in the Reg Davis Memorial Cup on the opening day of the season, before Brockworth secured a win on penalties.

The Thirds are continuing to struggle for points but their performances have seen them competitive in most games, so they will hope for a morale boosting win when they host local rivals Hardwicke Reserves at Beaufort, in a 2pm kick-off. The Fourths will play on the adjacent pitch, hosting Saintbridge, in Stroud League Division Five.

Will Cronshaw’s fifth team suffered a rare defeat last week and have a tough game against Bridgeway tomorrow, as they make the short trip to Slimbridge for another 2pm kick-off.

Then, on Sunday, the Fourths travel to Taverners Reserves in the Stroud League, Charity Cup. This will be another 2pm kick-off, as the two teams look to battle for a semi-final place in the Section D competition.

Here’s hoping for a better weekend than the last one!
