Rovers look to improved cup form

Tuffley Rovers will visit Gloucestershire County League side Kingswood AFC today, in the Gloucestershire FA Challenge Trophy 2nd Round, looking to return to winning ways after a desperately disappointing cup defeat at the hands of Thatcham Town on Tuesday evening.

Manager, Mark Pritchett, is content to have a weekend away from Hellenic League action, as his side travel the short journey to Kingswood, for a 2pm kick-off on Saturday.

With a mounting injury list to contend with, Pritchett saw his side succumb to an emphatic 3-0 defeat on Tuesday evening and although he isn’t expecting an easy ride on Saturday, he does welcome the distraction of another cup competition.

“Tuesday evening’s game was a good workout and lesson for the boys, against a very good Thatcham Town side”, he said. “They are the best side we’ve played this season and it shows the levels of performance we need to reach if we want to be successful. It’s good to have a weekend away from the league, although we’ve got a tough game nonetheless.”

Pritchett will be taking his side to face an old playing colleague, James Cole, the former Slimbridge player who is now managing Kingswood, who escaped relegation from the County League under his stewardship last season and now sit third in the table.

“I know Coco (Cole) well and he’s done a brilliant job. We have to go there with the right attitude, knowing we are going to be in for a tough afternoon”, Pritchett added.

The list of absent players remains lengthy for Rovers but Pritchett confirmed that Shayne Bradley will be available again, after missing Tuesday’s defeat with a shoulder injury, whilst Marcus Foxwell and Warren Mann face late fitness tests.
