Plenty to cheer about…on Saturday!

Saturday summary:

The first team had a Saturday off, after they played a rare Friday evening game, losing 2-0 to Brimscombe & Thrupp in the Bluefin Sports Hellenic League Challenge Cup, but there were still four games on Saturday, with our sides recording three wins out of a possible four.

With no first team game, there was an opportunity for some of the players who hadn’t featured the previous evening – or those in need of game time – to feature for the Reserves, and first-team manager Mark Pritchett joined the side, alongside Jamie Goodwin, Ben Tunnicliff and Marcus Foxwell, to good effect. Steve Cowe’s squad moved up to third place in Gloucestershire Northern Senior League, Division One thanks to a 7-0 win over Berkeley Town, as Pritchett netted a hat-trick, Goodwin a brace and youngster Tommy Callinan scored his first goal for the club, alongside Ryan Dobbins’ 22nd goal of the season.

The Fourths kept themselves second in the Stroud League, Division Five table, as they won 3-1 against Longlevens 4ths thanks to two Matt Stevens goals and a Ben Wadsworth effort. On the adjacent pitch at Beaufort, the Thirds recorded the only defeat of the day, as Player/Manager Jamie Harper was sent-off in a 4-2 defeat. Harper’s side had led 2-1, thanks to goals from Milorad Malesevic and Jamie Hatton, with 20 minutes to go but surrendered the lead and succumbed to another league defeat.

Will Cronshaw’s fifth team recorded a second consecutive victory over Uley 3rds, after their County Cup win the previous week, as they returned to Tuffley with all three points in Stroud League, Division Seven. Cronshaw netted for the fourth consecutive game, to add to goals from Ben Jones and man-of-the-match Harry Clapton. That win cemented second place in the table, with only goal difference separating the Fifths and leaders Gloster Rovers.
